I began this assignment by considering the connotations that it presented surrounding the world's current crisis with COVID 19. I came to the conclusion that regardless of whether or not we like it, the mask has become a symbol of this time. Art will always incorporate symbolism from its time. So, I decided to make a mask with two intentions in mind. My first intention was to mock the luxury brands that are attempting to sell bougie masks in order to profit from others' vulnerability. However, as I was making my piece from an old denim pocket, it occurred to me that repurposing materials was a more interesting commentary.
